Picking refers to the process within a warehouse where individual items are picked from a location (either a bin or pick face) to satisfy a customer order or sales order. Within DATASCOPE WMS, we have multiple picking strategies.

The Sales Order Carton Picking process is used in warehouses picking many cartons per order.

The module requires quite a bit of setting up before using it. The main difference, however, is that stock reservations are assigned to cartons upfront; therefore, during the reservation process, the reservation rule must decide exactly which stock and how much must go in each carton. (Typically, customers will create their own custom rule) We will still be picking to TrackID type entity, but the user will assign and pick at a carton level and, therefore, pick the assigned stock for a specific carton. There might be one pick slip with many cartons (i.e., one pick slip = many cartons).

Review the data

All pick slip data is visible on the Pick Slip Review screen. This is the main management front-end from where warehouses would review picks running within the warehouse. The overview here is helpful for watching the flow through the warehouse, identifying bottlenecks, and applying pressure where required.

Take note of the Carton No field in the View Reservations screen.

Start picking

  • The first thing the screen will ask you is to select the Zone in which the cartons must be picked. Select the Zone from the drop-down and click the Select button.

  • If the pick hasn’t been assigned to the logged in Operator, the operator can assign the pick slip on the first Tab - Assign

Info

When assigning from the Sales Order Carton Picking mobile screen you must enter (or scan) the Pick Slip number in the following format: Pickslip+WH+carton (For example: 11667738+FF+2508)

  • Similar to the other picking screens an item list will display on the Items Tab. These are the items specifically for this carton, as the specific carton has been assigned to the Operator to be picked - Pickslip+WH+carton (For example: 11667738+FF+2508)

  • Select the item you want to start picking and select Next.

  • You will start picking your pick slip. This will be done on the physical floor with a scanner and the pick slip in your hand.

  • The Pick TAB will open. This is the main picking screen that explains what Sugg Tracking ID, stock code, and quantity the picker must fetch. In the blue section, the picker can see the stock code and description of the item. It also indicates whether it is a Lot traceable item or not.

  • The picker will then physically go to the Sugg Bin and scan the TrackID into the TrackID field; you can also type it into the TrackID field. If you TAB off the field the rest of the fields will auto-populate.

  • Notice the format of the To TrackID field (which will auto-load), it will be Pickslip+WH+carton. For example: 11667738+FF+2508)

  • The Operator can then enter the QTY in the Quantity field. This can also auto-load by updating a Warehouse Setting.

  • Select Post to indicate that the item has been picked. The screen will automatically load to the next item on the pick slip to be picked.

  • If you are satisfied with your pick, you select Confirm. The software will then update the pick slip, depending on how many cartons was picked for the specific pick slip and update the status of the pick slip . The pick slip will only move to a Picked status, once all cartons for the specific pick slip has been picked.

  • You can go back to your Pick Slip Review screen. Right-click on your order and View the Reservations. The Picked Qty column will be updated, and a Picking Track ID will be added (which consists of the Pickslip+WH+carton, which is a system-generated ID.)

  • Once all cartons are picked, the software will automatically move the stock from the picking Bin to the Picking Track ID.

  • Once all the cartons has been picked and the pick slip has a status of Picked it is ready for the checkout process. For more information on the carton checkout process refer to <name>.

  • This module also integrates with the voice and conveyor-picking methods. This works really well, as it can offline different cartons at different sections in the warehouse.

  • It’s important to note that it does use specific checkout, inline checkout, and checkout put away screens as the cartons are different formats, and you are tracking at a different level.

  • As carton picking is done on a lower level, more than one Operator are able to pick multiple Cartons for the same pick slip.
