FUNCIONALITY OVERVIEW
The Load Planning module is a particularly useful module for distribution centers that run their own fleet of delivery vehicles. The module groups all released orders (picking slips) by the sale order route code (pulled in SYSPRO from the customer master table) into very graphical "boards".
Each board represents a route that has current orders (picking slips). Color is used extensively to assist the user (normally a dispatch manager) to review the progress of picking slips through the distribution center. The dispatch manager typically will look at the volume of product on each route and then plan the uploading delivery loads. This is done by assigning a driver, co driver and a vehicle to the route.
As the day progresses the dispatch manager will start to expedite picking slips to make sure that they are picked, checked, invoiced and are waiting in the correct dispatch cage before the truck arrives for the correction.
From within the grids the dispatch manager can do the following:
Move the pick slip to a different route
See who is picking the order
see what status the pick is currently in
view all orders that are taking to long to get through the process
Add a comment to the pick as a reminder
View the detail on the picking slip
View the customers address in Google maps
View the customer details
Adjust the sequence in which the orders must be delivered.
As picking slips move through the process they change color. Once invoiced they turn green. the point of these boards is to "paint" them green before the delivery pick up time.
When the assigned truck arrives the dispatch manager can assign the dock door (dispatch cage) and the truck will reverse up to this door. A suggested load plan is then printed from the module. This plan is used to find the orders and to load them (via scanner) onto the truck. This suggested load plan can be printed in order delivery sequence.
Once all invoices are loaded an Actual Trip Sheet is printed for the driver and the deliveries are made.
On return of the truck, any none delivered orders are scanned back into a cage (Unload on the scanner). These picking slips are shown in the grid in red and italic text. These order would be prioritized for the next delivery.
In a large distribution center there can be a large number of routes with many picking slips on each route. A separate refresh button existing on each route so that the user can refresh a single route at a time. Also, when opening the screen the user can select just the routes that he/she want to review at this time. many planning board screens can be run each showing their own set of routes.
One more interesting option on this screen is the ability to print released picking slips from the screen. Within DATASCOPE WMS we can set the Sales order release and Wave release screens to only release picking slips but not to print them. The load planning screen can then be used to release the actual printing of picking slips to create the "waves" through the warehouse.
STANDARD PROCESS
Select the routes to be shown on the planning board
Review each route and used the tools available to expedite picking slips where required
Print the Suggested Trip sheet when the truck has arrived
