Transport Management System / Commodity Class Maintenance [TMS004]
The Transport Management System (TMS) is a DATASCOPE WMS module that will automatically integrate directly into external Shipping solutions. This ensures that your warehouse floor's process is fully integrated and automated.
This User Guide will focus on a high-level overview of the TMS, which will include:

What is the DATASCOPE PREMIUM WMS TMS?
The TMS module contains core entities — plugins — that provide an extra layer for you or your developer to manipulate any data going in or out of the WMS, thereby enabling all the interfacing between your normal WMS and external, third-party shipping or TMS software. Normally, standard cloud-based solutions (ProShip, Logistyx, FreightPOP, etc.) integrate with FedEx, UPS, USPS, and other carriers doing the integration work.
The TMS module creates the interface layer between DATASCOPE WMS and any third-party software solutions on the floor. The net effect of this interfacing is on the floor itself. There, you can process orders easily and let the automation take care of shipping, labeling, and everything else in the background.
The TMS module is, therefore, the interface between DATASCOPE WMS processes and the 3rd party Shipping or TMS software.
Why Implement a TMS?
The purpose of the TMS module is to create an environment where order processing on the floor — small parcel orders, LTL orders, etc. — runs through the same processes you currently run. However, the integration will happen on the back end, so there is no need to go into a different shipping software. The solution will automate all of it behind the scenes.
We’ve accomplished the entire integration through Plugins. It doesn’t matter which shipping or TMS solution you choose to work with, you can use the DATASCOPE Premium plugin architecture to adjust the data any way you want. If you use a different third-party shipping solution, the mappings can be easily developed by mapping the files across, which your DSP will normally do.
The TMS module is for situations where you’ve outsourced your shipping to an external 3rd party TMS software, and you want to let the DATASCOPE Premium software determine how best to ship it, including cheapest options and necessary documentation.

Other Features
Tracking information can be sent to the customer’s email address using triggers, either when the carton is generated, or the shipment is shipped.
Caters to manual deliveries and manual capture of tracking information.
Easy to validate US and Canadian addresses in the same shipment by combining standard, cloud-based validation with a custom plugin.
All interfaces and plugins are set up for cross-border shipping and billing throughout the delivery process.
Module Licensing
The Transport Management System (TMS) is a separate Module within the product. It must be licensed separately when purchasing the product.
User interface
Once licensed and activated, the TMS module is visible on the Main Menu under Transport Management. It consists of three screens:
TMS Order Query screen
Shipment Processing screen
Commodity Class Maintenance screen
TMS Order Query
Initially all Shipments will be processed on an Order Level, meaning, every Sales Order that is being processed via SYSPRO will be visible on this screen and must go through some validation checks.
This TMS Order Query screen is used to manage those orders. Ideally, you wouldn’t need to view this screen, but as issues might occur, this is the report you can use to manage and track the issues.
The Last Message column in the data grid will give you an indication of what the issue is with an Order.
From the DATASCOPE WMS Main menu, browse to Transport Management System / TMS Order Query
The Order Query screen will open. This is a review screen where we will look at orders within DATASCOPE WMS that has been processed.
Search by entering a Sales Order number in the From Sales Order and To Sales Order fields, or
You can also search by Carrier. Enter the Carrier name in the Carrier field.
TMS Orders has various statuses, and you can also search by selecting one of the statuses in the TMS Order Status drop-down.
TMS Order Status – the following statuses exist:
o  NEW – This is a new order loaded in SYSPRO, at least one line has Qty Reserved and it has an Order status of 1, 2, 3 in SYSPRO. (if orders are in Backorder in SYSPRO then it will not appear in the TMS Order Screen) Orders in suspense in SYSPRO will also not be visible in this screen.
o  TYPECHECK – this is the second status where certain checks are done, for example determining whether it is an LTL vs Small Parcel. If there were any failed Address verifications, then an order will be stuck in this status until the Address verification issue has been resolved.
o  ADDRESS – this status determines the Address verification step. (Address verification of US orders only, can be overridden. If orders are shipped outside of the US, no Address verification will happen. If there were any failed Rate Shop verifications, then an order will be stuck in this status until the Rate Shop verification issue has been resolved.
o  NOSHOP – Typically, if Sales Orders was created as a Backorder in SYSPRO, then it will bypass the Rate shop status and have a NOSHOP status.
o  RATESHOP – this status is for the initial rate shop of orders based on the order Qty and size estimated. A final rate shop will be done again at the end of the process.
o  READY – if the order passes the initial Rate Shop, the status will change to READY. It will be visible on the Order Wave Release and Sales Order Release screens.
o  RELEASED – If the order is in this status, it is ready to be picked up by a Carrier.
o  COMPLETE – The order has been picked up and delivered.
o  REPROCESS
Orders can also be filtered by Order Type. You have the option to select All, Small Parcel, or LTL.
Routing – Occasionally a Carrier will not be selected when a Sales Order is created and therefore it will not go through the Initial Rate Shop process. These types of orders cannot be released or picked until a Carrier has been selected. To easily find these types of orders the Route or Set Route filters options can be used.
Select the Refresh icon to load the data grid.
Once your data grid is loaded, you have the option to group, filter, and sort the information by using the Drag a column header here to group by that column area at the top of the data grid, just above the data grid column headers.
Various color indicators also exist on the screen to easily display what is required for each line in the data grid.
Once orders reach Checkout, it can become complicated as multiple pick slips can be generated for one customer or destination per day. Ultimately, those must all be shipped together as one shipment. These Shipments are then managed in the next screen, Shipment Process.
Shipment Process
This is where multiple orders (either a pick slip, MSN or a Waybill) become a shipment and this screen is used to manage these shipments.
Pick slip is typically a single order.
MSN grouping of orders (pick slips)
Waybill is a grouping of multiple MSN.
From the DATASCOPE WMS Main menu, browse to Transport Management System / Shipment Processing.
The Shipment Processing screen will open. This is a review screen where we will look at orders within DATASCOPE WMS that have been processed.
The 3rd party TMS BOL can be reprinted from this screen by selecting the Reprint BOL button.
The 3rd party TMS Commercial Invoice can also be reprinted from this screen by selecting the Reprint CI button.
The final cost of the Shipment is also visible in the Shipment Detail section of the screen.
Commodity Class Maintenance
A Commodity Class refers not only to a specific product, but also the packaging of that product, the container those packaged products are in, and even the pallet type used for the shipment.
There might be certain rules (i.e., specific documentation required) for a specific type of Commodity Class. An NMFC no must also be linked to a specific Commodity Class. This code assists in classifying items that can be shipped. The NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) code is a designation that is used to group commodities.
Typically, Commodity Classes will be configured by the System Administrator, and therefore you will need the correct permissions to view this menu item.
On the Ribbon Bar, browse to Settings / Permissions.
Select the Menu Access Tab and select the appropriate Group (i.e., Administrators)
Under the PC Menu column locate Transport Management System and ensure Commodity Class Maintenance has a green tick mark.
To open the Commodity Class Maintenance module, browse on the Main Menu to Transport Management System / Commodity Class Maintenance.
The Commodity Class Maintenance screen will open.
This is a free format data grid where various Commodity Classes can be entered.
Start by entering a Commodity Class code in the first column, with a Description.
Add Additional Shipper Info
Add the NMFC no. This code assists in classifying items that can be shipped. The NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) code is a designation that is used to group commodities.
Add a Contact Number for the Carrier.
Select Apply to save the new Commodity Class entered.
Commodity Classes are linked to a Shipping TrackID.
